Lorain County commissioners voted June 16 to declare it necessary to levy a 0.5‑mill renewal for the Lorain County General Health District and directed the clerk to certify the resolution to the Board of Elections for placement on the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot.
Resolution No. 26‑357 states the levy is a five‑year renewal and quotes the county auditor's estimates: "The County Auditor estimates the tax will collect $3,785,431.00 annually" on a taxable value base of $11,761,315,690. The resolution directs the clerk to certify the copy to the Board of Elections by Aug. 5, 2026. Assistant Prosecutor Leigh Prugh said she would review typographical or citation formatting issues in the draft levy language but did not believe typographical errors would invalidate the county's certification.
During public comment, Karen Johnson urged clearer statutory citations, saying some ORC references in the proposed levy language "do not exist" and called for clearer ballot language. The board adopted the resolution with all three commissioners voting aye.
