Albert Lea board votes 6-0 to expel student after open hearing

The Albert Lea Public School District Board of Education voted 6-0 on Oct. 14 to expel a student following an open hearing requested by the student's family.
Board members present — Chair Dave Klatt and Directors Kim Nelson, Neal Skaar, Mary Jo Dorman, Angie Hoffman and Gary Schindler — considered evidence and testimony submitted by the administration and by the student and the student's representative. The administration was represented by Will Seiler and by legal counsel Jordan Kleinschmidt of Squires, Waldspurger, & Mace, PA. Chair Klatt moved that "as Chair for this hearing, he will rule on all points of order and questions of evidence and procedure raised during the hearing," a motion the board recorded as carried.
Following open deliberation the board approved the "Resolution on Expulsion of Student." Director Kim Nelson moved the resolution and Director Mary Jo Dorman seconded; a roll-call vote recorded six affirmative votes and no opposition. The meeting record shows the board adjourned at 7:31 PM.
