County gives go-ahead for EMS Station 1 site work after DOLA grant award

Project manager Jeff Hickam updated the board that staff authorized Big Valley Construction to begin site work for EMS Station 1 and that the county had received an official DOLA grant award that morning. Hickam said the DOLA grant amount totaled $1,842,870 and a grading permit from Granby had arrived, enabling work to advance.
Chief Wingate thanked the Granby Fire Board for waiving nearly $200,000 in fire impact fees, saying the concession "was very significant consideration" and would help the county meet mission goals. Commissioners approved the pre-construction services agreement with Big Valley and directed staff to proceed with contracting. Hickam and staff also discussed a tentative groundbreaking planned for May 7 and a temporary sign marking the future EMS station site.
Why this matters: the DOLA award and fee waiver materially lower the county’s project costs and allow site work to begin earlier than expected, which can speed emergency coverage improvements in the service area.
