Grand County EMS seeks federal Safe Streets planning grant to improve post-crash care

Bill Clark of Grand County EMS asked the board for direction to pursue a Safe Streets for All planning and demonstration grant aimed at improving post-crash care coordination and survival outcomes on county highways. Clark said the grant would fund planning work and help identify other funding sources for post-crash care and response improvements.
Commissioners expressed support for the application. "I’m very much in favor of applying for this," one commissioner said, noting high call volumes on long stretches of county roadway. Clark said that if the county is awarded funds, he would present the award to the board for approval before accepting. The board directed staff to proceed with the application and to engage partner agencies (sheriff’s office, state patrol, CDOT and fire departments) as part of the planning process.
Why this matters: the county experiences long emergency response distances across mountainous terrain; a successful planning grant would help the county and local partners better coordinate post-crash care and potentially identify capital or training needs. The EMS presentation also emphasized webinars and partner meetings included in the grant process.
