Lorain County Regional Airport wins $500,000 ODOT grant; Erie Blacktop awarded $499,090 contract for main apron

The Lorain County Board of Commissioners on June 5 approved a $500,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation's Fiscal Year 2026 Ohio Airport Improvement Program to rehabilitate the main apron (Phase III) at Lorain County Regional Airport.
The Board also awarded the construction contract to Erie Blacktop, Inc. of Sandusky, Ohio, for $499,090.55. Bids were opened April 30; Erie Blacktop submitted the lowest responsive bid for base work. The Board issued a Notice to Proceed effective on or before June 15, 2026, and set a completion deadline of Sept. 4, 2026. The resolution notes that 95% of the project's cost will be funded by ODOT and that airport-construction funds are available in the county account listed in the resolution.
Commissioners approved the award unanimously and authorized the county administrator or deputy to request release of retainage upon final completion.
