Lorain County Transit to apply for $860,000 ODOT grant to restore Vermilion service after Sandusky Transit exit

Deputy Administrator Perkins told the Board the City of Vermilion lost Sandusky Transit service and is seeking replacement transportation for residents and workers. Lorain County Transit will apply for an $860,000 Ohio Department of Transportation Workforce Mobility Partnership grant to establish a mobility brokerage and support transit in Vermilion and Vermilion Township.
Perkins said Vermilion and Vermilion Township are exploring local matches and nonprofit partners to meet the grant's local-share requirements. She said Lorain County Transit can provide immediate Dial-A-Ride service for county residents while the city coordinates local contributions. The Board authorized the application and delegated signature authority for required Title VI assurances and other grant documents.
Perkins said officials are exploring connections with neighboring transit systems and institutions, noting they had not completed a full coordination analysis with Cuyahoga or other providers. The resolution authorizes the county administrator or deputy to execute grant agreements and related documents and to provide additional information as required by ODOT.
