County rejects tentative deputies' contract, asks sheriff for fiscal detail

The Lorain County Board of Commissioners voted on June 5 to reject a tentative collective bargaining agreement between the Lorain County Sheriff and the Lorain County Deputy Association (LCDA). Commissioner David J. Moore said the Board's decision stemmed from an absence of fiscal documentation and from not being invited to participate in negotiations.
Moore told the meeting the action "was not made lightly" and said county representatives historically review proposed agreements with accompanying cost projections and summaries. "The board has responsibility to ensure that all collective bargaining agreements are thoroughly reviewed for their financial impact on county operations and taxpayers before approval," he said. Moore said representatives will communicate with the Sheriff's Office to obtain additional information and that the Board will not comment further while respecting the bargaining process.
The resolution rejecting the tentative agreement (Res. 26-343) passed unanimously. The Board emphasized the rejection preserves the right to reopen negotiations once the requested cost and implementation details are provided.
