June Connor, representing Friends of the Library, told the Poulsbo Parks & Recreation Commission that the organization will pilot a “poetry walks” program at Fish Park beginning April 1. "We're doing a pilot program... 10 signs featuring nature poems will be up for either 1 month or 2 months," she said, and indicated the Friends plan to fund installation and coordinate timing with Parks staff.
Connor said the concept was modeled on successful installations she observed in Olympic National Park and on the Spruce Railroad Trail and that the Friends will work with Parks staff and the Kitsap Regional Library on handouts and signage placement. Jeff Osmack, Parks & Rec Director, said staff will help with logistics and thanked the Friends for funding the installation. The group plans to finalize installation timing and handouts with staff and to evaluate expansion to other parks if the pilot is successful.
