City arborist to monitor Olympic Overlook tree work; 31 'significant' trees slated for retention

Ashley Weller told the hearing that tree-retention areas are primarily on the east side of the site and that 31 significant trees (6" diameter at breast height and greater) will be retained with easements and split-rail fencing. She said retained trees will be identified on the plan and protected during construction.
Staff explained the city arborist reviews tree-clearing and monitors retained trees during construction and that tree-cutting and clearing permits are issued concurrently with grading permits. Neighbors sought reassurances about contractor competence and limb-felling near houses; staff said arborist oversight and required specifications (including protection zones) are part of the permit review.
