DNR grant work wraps canopy inventories; some field sensors failed or were stolen

City staff told the Poulsbo Tree Board the DNR-funded project has delivered most of its early spatial work — vegetation inventories, LIDAR-derived canopy measures and historical imagery comparisons — but that field sensor data are incomplete.
"Some didn't collect any data. Some were stolen," S1 reported, describing sensors removed Dec. 20 and noting battery failures on several units. Staff said the contractor is compiling afternoon-average visualizations for riparian areas, heat zones and canopy hotspots and will forward large data files to the staff member responsible for the next phase.
Board members supported producing a public-facing community report once the team finishes processing the deliverables, with a targeted presentation in June or July to share canopy findings and inform planting priorities. Staff committed to arranging a follow-up meeting with Western Washington and the grant team to synchronize the next steps.
