Assessors' staff and the county assessor’s representative briefed the Board of County Commissioners on the property valuation protest and appeal process for tax year 2025 valuations. Staff reminded the board the appraisal (valuation) date is June 30, 2024, valuation notices will mail May 1, protests run in May–June, and final BOE determinations must be filed by August 5.
Because prior reevaluation years produced heavy appeal volumes, staff recommended hiring independent referees to preside over hearings and provide recommendations to the Board of Equalization. Commissioners directed staff to advertise for referees, produce a list of arbitrators as required under statute, and authorized the use of electronic notices and scheduling for BOE appeals to avoid mail‑delivery timing problems. The board also authorized publication of the annual notice that the commissioners will sit as the BOE beginning July 1.
