Council approves multiple compensation-ordinance amendments, including assistant fire chief and HR director grade changes

Councilor Kathy Ann Harris moved a series of compensation-ordinance amendments submitted by the mayor and previously advertised. The council took the matters from the table, gave second readings, suspended Rule 45 for final readings and approved the measures by roll call. The clerk announced vote totals on the record for the assistant fire chief amendment and other items. "11 in favor, mister president," the clerk recorded for one of the measures, and later roll calls recorded 12 in favor for other amendments.
The record shows Councilor Tim King recused himself from one matter to "avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest." The approved amendments included regrading the human-resources director from grade 17 to grade 18 and changes to compensation for specific positions as read into the record; a $5,000 stipend for the Senior Park Ranger was also approved. The items will be implemented consistent with city personnel rules and with the finance committee and budget processes as required.
