City staff told Poulsbo council that the local taxi-cab ordinance dates back several decades and recommended repealing it so the state’s regulatory framework governs for-hire transportation.
The staff presentation explained the city had not actively regulated taxi services for many years and that a patchwork of old requirements could invite claims of selective enforcement. Staff recommended repeal to avoid inconsistent enforcement and to clear the city code of anachronistic provisions; council members expressed support for the recommendation.
Staff noted the state would be the default regulator when the city does not adopt local taxi rules.
