Teen‑led beach basket program expands; town supports outreach on invasive Manila clam

The select board heard from Maeve, a student leader, about the expansion of a beach 'basket' program that provides collection baskets and encourages volunteers to gather trash at Nahant beaches. Maeve said the initiative has grown from “a few baskets” to multiple stations and that the town is adding new baskets at Doggy Beach.
Volunteers and SWIM leaders also described a related outreach effort to educate the public about invasive Manila clams. Town staff said they would help with signage and allow outreach materials to be posted at town facilities. Board members thanked the youth presenters and encouraged further engagement with schools and community groups.
Officials said DPW will empty barrels and support logistics for the basket stations and that the board would invite student presenters to future meetings as projects continue.
