O’Reilly read a statement noting the Lynnway carries an estimated 41,000–44,000 vehicles per day and warned that reducing general‑purpose lanes from three to two could increase congestion, cause spillover on regional routes and lengthen emergency response times for Nahant and neighboring towns. "The Lynnway carries approximately 41,000 to 44,000 vehicles per day," O’Reilly said, adding that while the board supports improved bus service and pedestrian safety, those goals “should not come at the expense of regional mobility and public safety.”
Board members asked that the town administrator transmit the letter and invited the fire chief to weigh in as the draft is finalized; the board signaled support to coordinate similar statements with neighboring communities.
