Town Administrator Justin Sultzbach said the funding would be a low- or no-interest loan; because the issue currently affects seven households the town is instead pursuing point-of-entry treatment (POET) systems for individual homes while engineers prepare cost estimates.
Sultzbach said engineers were asked to provide details for POET systems for each affected home and discussed using roughly $1 million from Congressman Molton's office toward a community initiative that could cover POET installations, additional well monitoring near two landfills, and private-property testing; the transcript records an estimated total installation cost for POET systems of $300,000 for discussion purposes. The board asked staff to identify homeowners interested in participating; residents may decline POET installation. The Board voted on a motion by Debbie Carbone, seconded by Rick Kassiotis, to recommend no action on Article 25 and to pursue the POET option and related design work.
