Council vacates two recorded subdivisions to clear way for new housing and lot reconfiguration

City Attorney Michael Harrington explained that, pursuant to state law, a municipality may vacate a recorded subdivision by ordinance to permit redevelopment. The council approved Ordinance No. 2026-04 to vacate the Jacob Flemming Minor Subdivision, a step needed to allow development of the Uintah Heights 13-unit townhome project; the preliminary plat had received Planning Commission approval.
Harrington also presented Ordinance No. 2026-05 to vacate Lot 2A of the Tyler & Marilee Shiner Amended Minor Subdivision to divide the lot into three portions: the northern and central pieces would be incorporated into the Marcella Meadows Subdivision (joining property owned by the Shiners and the Morris family) and the southern portion would remain a separate parcel anticipated for purchase. Tyler Shiner explained that access to the northern and central portions would be through the adjacent residential properties. Both ordinances passed unanimously.
