Council hears 'Invest in Glenn Heights' marketing plan; members agree to discuss at retreat

Councilmember Tremaine Hobbs presented a proposed comprehensive marketing and branding strategy — described in the meeting as 'Invest in Glenn Heights' — aimed at creating a recognizable city brand, increasing business recruitment, and coordinating community engagement. Hobbs outlined a phased timeline: an initial development period, community engagement and a later rollout, with regular quarterly updates from staff on progress.

Hobbs told the council the plan should begin before outside consultants finish their economic-development deliverable so the city can move immediately on implementation. He outlined tactical ideas including increased social-media emphasis, employee spotlights, and high-visibility placements such as billboards along I-35. "So once they deliver, it's easy to just roll it out," Hobbs said, urging the council to begin internal work while consultant Willdan completes its study.

Councilmembers questioned staffing capacity and whether the city or external consultants should produce creative materials. Mayor Brown and others suggested including communications and community-engagement staff in planning and using a council retreat to refine targeted business categories. The council ultimately voted 7–0 to table the item until after the retreat so members could discuss specifics and return with a refined direction.
