The commission approved a free city-run flag-football program for children in grades 1–4, scheduled to run July 27 through August 6, with head coaches Andy Cook and Nick Ducard named and a t-shirt sponsorship pledged by Andrew Samsel. The parks presenter described the field layout and equipment plans and said registration would be handled through the parks and recreation office.
The presenter said the program is intended to introduce kids to football in a non-contact environment and create a pathway to the city's tackle program. "This will be a free program for the students 1st grade through 4th grade," the parks staff said, and commissioners voted to make the program official and to appoint the volunteer coaches.
