Board reviews technology plan; administrators outline replacement cycle and flag AI policy need

Coordinator of Curriculum and Professional Learning Mr. Cornwell presented the District’s Technology Plan and its three goals: Learning, Teaching and Infrastructure. He said the plan includes a replacement cycle that anticipates purchasing Chromebooks for every student in Grades 5 and 9 (about 100 devices annually at approximately $35,000), ClearTouch boards and teacher workstations (approximate annual costs $45,000 and $6,500), and printer replacement (~$4,500 annually).
Cornwell said the plan has been reviewed by the development committee and WNYRIC and will be submitted to NYS; he also noted the District plans to use federal E‑rate funds for some infrastructure maintenance. He flagged that, because NYSED has not issued clear guidance on artificial intelligence in schools, the district will need to develop an AI policy for student and staff use of AI tools once state direction is available.
Board members did not vote on procurement at the meeting but received the plan for submission to the state for approval.
