Council appoints Laura Murphy and Steve Gunn to fill two vacant seats
Summary
After interviewing candidates and recessing to executive sessions under RCW 42.30.110 (H), the council unanimously appointed Laura Murphy to Position #4 and Steve Gunn to Position #3; Clerk-Treasurer Heidi Napolitino administered the oaths, and appointees were reminded they must file to run in the November 2025 general election.
Mayor Mike Quinn outlined the interview and appointment process; the council interviewed candidates Kelly Farrell, Steve Gunn and Laura Murphy for the two vacant council seats.
The council recessed to executive sessions to discuss candidate qualifications under RCW 42.30.110 (H). Following the executive sessions, Councilmember Rajeev Thakur nominated Laura Murphy for Council Position #4; the nomination was approved unanimously and Clerk-Treasurer Heidi Napolitino administered the oath of office. Later, Councilmember Thakur nominated Steve Gunn for Council Position #3; that nomination was similarly approved unanimously and the oath was administered. Napolitino reminded the council that the appointees will have to file to participate in the November 2025 general election.
