City staff presented the commission with an updated lodging-tax fund report and a projected year-end balance.
The city clerk said she compiled general ledger entries and an opening balance from Finance Director Brian Carlton, then projected revenue to estimate the fund. "So we take that $155,246.04 and subtract the fiscal year 2026 awards that are still left to claim," she said, and showed a reserve calculation using a 15% variance. After that reserve, staff estimated about $71,000 could be available for awards. Commissioners noted the 15% reserve had been reduced from an earlier 20% and asked staff to confirm numbers with finance before final decisions in November.
The clerk explained unclaimed awards roll back into the fund if grantees do not submit invoices by the contract deadline. Commissioners asked staff to follow up with Finance Director Brian Carlton to clarify which revenue sources (hotel/motel, transient rentals, B&Bs, investment interest) are included in each ledger account so the commission can better assess revenue stability. The commission will review applications and final revenue numbers at its November meeting before making final funding recommendations to city council.
