Finance committee hears urgent IT needs after repeated computer failures

"We have had to buy computers, which have eaten into our budget because they've been crashing," a staff member said, explaining the city is now short on funds to replace additional failing units and has identified about five critical machines that must be replaced first.
Committee members and staff worked through the math: the department has about 19 computers in total, and at an estimated $3,000 for a basic replacement, six replacements would total about $18,000 year-to-date for that line. Staff said Tom Riley is developing a five-year replacement schedule for inclusion in the capital-improvement program so purchases can be phased over multiple years.
