Schiller Park planning commission recommends easing off‑street parking minimums

The Schiller Park Zoning, Planning and Appeals Commission voted unanimously March 11 to recommend amending off‑street parking rules in Chapter 155.2203 of the Village Code and forwarding the proposal to the Village Board for consideration on April 2, 2026. The motion recommending the text amendment passed 8–0.

Zoning Administrator Max Morgan told the commission that the Village intends "to update off‑street parking requirements in Chapter 155.2203 of the Village Code to affect all zoning districts." He said the change is intended to reflect national trends — lower private‑vehicle ownership in some areas and greater public‑transportation availability — and to give businesses more flexibility so they need fewer variances.

Commissioners discussed the proposal and its effect on applicants and parking configurations. The staff recommendation and the commission’s finding was that the text amendment is necessary due to changing conditions for business applicants and their customers. A motion to approve the recommendation was made by Commissioner Richard Flanagan and seconded by Commissioner David Powrozek; the recorded ayes were Chairman Michael Bowcock and Commissioners Kisiel, Powrozek, DePinto, Dindia, Tiedje, Flanagan and Figarelli.

If approved by the Village Board, the code change would alter parking minimums across zoning districts to permit more flexible parking requirements; specifics of minimums by use were not specified in the commission minutes and will be set out in the ordinance presented to the Board.
