Carneys Point officials debated shelter options and capital priorities during the Feb. 21 budget meeting. Mr. Brown told the Committee it would cost about "2 to 21/2 million" to run a shelter and that the township needs to decide whether to operate its own shelter or rely on a county‑run facility and how to charge residents. No decision was reached; the Committee flagged the matter for further study.
On capital spending, members agreed to move computer replacements to the Capital Improvement Fund — including four or five for the Police Department — and questioned a $15,000 recreation equipment/repairs line given recent playground updates. Mrs. Ehret said the township has $240,000 in the Capital Improvement Fund and that the usual $100,000 annual deposit could be cut to $25,000 or removed; she noted one bond will be paid off and reminded the Committee that interest costs were higher last year. The Committee increased the Master Plan line to $5,000 pending confirmation and discussed funding Affordable Housing support to Habitat.
