Commission advances rare and threatened-species rules into amendment package

The South Burlington Planning Commission voted unanimously to advance draft language for a new Chapter 12 addressing significant natural communities and rare, threatened and endangered species so the draft can be included in the next round of land-development regulation (LDR) amendments. The Chair moved to advance the chapter with a minor ordering change (moving section G to the top); the motion was seconded and passed without a roll-call after commissioners responded "Aye."
Staff said the chapter was developed in collaboration with the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources to align local rules with state expectations for Act 250/Tier 1a applications. A planning staff member told commissioners, "We expect the window to open this summer," and said the language is intended to be South Burlington specific while remaining compatible with state review. The commission instructed staff to include the draft in the package that will be warned for public hearing and to continue coordinating with ANR.
