The State Building Commission approved the early design phase for a replacement aviation campus for the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Aviation program, to be located at a site in Millington near the Memphis area. Presenters from 4f design and DLR Group described a 65,000‑square‑foot hangar-and-education facility with modular shop bays, classrooms, collaborative spaces and space to display multiple trainer aircraft.
Adam Post of DLR Group said, "As Kurt mentioned, this is at the Millington Airport. It's not directly connected to the runway." Presenters stated that cost estimates are currently within the bid target and that they expect final design in about a month; when asked, presenters said the land acquisition was not yet closed but that closing is in process. The commission moved to approve the early design phase and recorded a unanimous roll-call vote.
