The State Building Commission approved vision, project scope and early design funding for the Sumner County expansion and renovation of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Nashville.
Executive Director Tracy and Gary Askew of Bauer Askew Architecture described a two‑phase project featuring a two‑story front building with administrative suites and classrooms, and a rear phase with automotive, welding, machine tool and industrial electricity labs. Askew said the project “is in budget, at just under $38,500,000. It is anticipated to start in May, May 21, which is the day after the middle school gets out,” and estimated about 26 months for the two phases with substantial completion targeted in July 2028.
Commissioners praised the design and noted local community support. A motion to approve the project was moved and seconded; the commission adopted the item. The approval covers the early design phase and project scope funding as recommended by the state architect.
