Council approves consent agenda; rebid for Walk‑Bike bridge within engineer’s estimate

At the meeting the South Burlington City Council approved the consent agenda unanimously, which included a resolution authorizing the city manager to apply for Northern Borders Regional Commission funds and a letter of support for phase 2 of the East–West Alternative Transportation Crossing (the Walk‑Bike Bridge over I‑89), and a contract award to Sawyer Sprinkler Service LLC for fire suppression at 575 Dorsett Street.
City Manager Jesse Baker updated the council on the bridge procurement: "That bid closed on Friday. We got 3 additional responses. They are within what the engineers' predicted budget was. So give us a path forward to completing this project," he said. Baker said staff expects to bring the contract to the April 20 meeting for authorization and that construction would start during the summer construction season; trees are being removed this week to meet permit conditions.
The consent agenda passed without roll‑call opposition. Councilors said they will receive a separate contract authorization on April 20 for final signature and award.
