Toccoa forms committee to scope water treatment plant replacement, seeks grants

Mayor Terry Carter and Utilities Director Harry Scott told the commission the city must prioritize planning and design for a water treatment plant replacement to position itself for grant funding and to obtain realistic cost estimates.
"We need to set a priority next year and move forward in the design and planning so we can get something tangible to get grants and find pricing," Mayor Terry Carter said, urging an organized effort to prepare grant applications and budgeting.
Harry Scott, Utilities Director, said the project requires a committee to assess what the city will face in the next five to 10 years, estimate costs, identify siting and funding options and direct staff work. Commissioners Michelle Jamieson and Evan Hellenga volunteered for the committee. City Manager Fredda O. Wheeler said the Jan. 26 meeting will highlight major projects and staff will bring forward an action plan.
No design contract or funding was approved at the work session; commissioners asked staff to prioritize scoping and to seek potential funding sources.
