Miss Moyer presented a revision to the district's grades 10–12 chemistry curriculum, describing a shift to OpenSciEd-style storylines that embed chemistry learning into real-world phenomena. The presenter said the program reduces discrete documents into a unified chemistry course organized around five units and includes supports for students at different levels.
"We are aligned now to Steel's," Miss Moyer said, describing the alignment work and the move toward scenario-driven units that allow students to apply chemistry in real contexts. She said the curriculum includes scaffolding for students who need extra support and extension opportunities for students who want AP-level rigor; teachers piloted the materials and provided feedback that shaped supplements such as Lewis diagrams, VSEPR models and spectrophotometry supports.
Board members asked about assessments and implementation. Miss Moyer said the curriculum uses common assessments: mid-unit transfer tasks and end-of-unit transfer tasks with rubrics, and that the district has already begun common assessment work at middle school and in biology. Administrators said they would return to the board with the final materials for approval and thanked teachers who piloted the work.
