Evergreen School District board adopts special meeting agenda after member raises audit concerns

At a special meeting on Aug. 6, 2026, the Evergreen School District (Clark) Board of Directors voted to adopt the meeting agenda after a board member sought to amend it to allow public comment on an email exchange with legal counsel. "May I amend the agenda to allow me to publicly share about a May 13 email exchange with our legal counsel," the member said, raising concerns about an earlier message to law enforcement.

The member told the board that an October 15 email to a VPD detective had stated that "the supplemental contracts were part of the fiscal year 23, 24 audit, and they found no issues," but that it was later learned "the auditors did not previously audit the 4 supplemental contracts." The member said legal counsel would not correct his October email without prior board approval. No formal amendment to the special meeting agenda was permitted under the meeting rules for special sessions, and the chair directed the meeting to proceed.

Director Bocanegra moved to adopt the agenda "as presented," and the motion was seconded. After an initial tally and confirmation of a remote participant's vote, the chair announced the agenda was adopted by a 4–1 vote. The board then moved to an executive session to consult with legal counsel.
