Resident Amanda Rales urges enforcement over unlicensed short-term rental at 465 N 350 E

Amanda Rales of 506 North 350 East told the Hyde Park City Council that neighbors had repeatedly observed short-term guests at 465 N 350 E and that the property is listed on Airbnb and VRBO despite lacking a business license. "This ongoing illegal operation is really frustrating to me and many of my neighbors, and it kinda raises concerns how code's being enforced in our city," Rales said, citing city code 12.30.210C8.
City staff replied that the property owner had been hand-delivered a notice informing him the operation was illegal and that the short-term rental code provides 30 days for an owner to come into compliance before fines begin. Staff said an application was submitted but is incomplete and staff are working with the owner to complete it. Marcus told the council the compliance clock began when the letter was delivered.
Council members discussed regulatory options and staff plans to pursue an overlay zone to limit where short-term rentals can operate in town based on parking and road capacity. Staff said properly licensed short-term rentals would be grandfathered and that those operating without a license remain subject to enforcement.
