Council approves Goodyear excavation funding, appoints clerk and moves into closed session

Council approved a final appropriation of $51,000 for the archaeological excavation at the Goodyear site after James River Archaeology’s representative was recognized. The motion to approve was made and seconded, and the chair called for the vote.
Later in the meeting council moved to appoint Catherine Glass as Clerk of Council. Members praised the qualifications of both candidates and expressed appreciation for Catherine Warner’s service; the motion to appoint Glass carried. Council then voted to enter closed session for specified statutory purposes (appointments, legal briefings concerning the city manager and Coliseum Central, and a personnel matter) and staff added a hearing-setting item for revoking a taxicab driver's permit to the evening agenda.
