Front Range Community College interns report to Longmont council about summer city projects
Summary
Five Front Range Community College interns described summer placements across city departments including NextLight, procurement, community relations and the project management office; interns said hands-on work improved skills and confirmed interest in public-sector careers.
Caleb Sievercroup, human resources coordinator, introduced five Front Range Community College interns who summarized their summer work with Longmont city departments and partners.
Daniel Mendiville described an internship with NextLight where he toured the data center and learned networking operations. "By the end of the internship, I was able to recognize the different equipment, understand what many of the cables were for, and see how everything works together to keep the network running," Mendiville said.
Other interns — Zach Eiseley (procurement), Olivia Selby (first-generation student reflections), Kayla Ortiz Zambrano (neighborhood and community resources), and Aubrey Jones (project management office) — each presented project outcomes, highlighted staff mentorship and said the placements helped clarify career goals.
Council thanked the interns and urged them to consider returning to local government jobs; staff said the program is now in its fourth summer and had over 50 applicants this year.
