City staff outlines Buckroe master plan: pier, beach replenishment, low-rise housing and parking changes

Keith Kennedy, chief planner, gave council a final-draft briefing on the Buckroe master plan and the outreach process that produced it. He described six strategic initiatives including the Bayfront (rebuilding the fishing pier), beach replenishment already under way, improved Pembroke Avenue gateways, and new single-family infill on city-owned parcels; he said some projects are already budgeted while others will require funding approvals.
Kennedy emphasized design principles to preserve Buckroe’s low-scale, beach-oriented character—"keeping it to 2 or 3 stories"—and outlined parking changes intended to replace an overflow lot with increased on-street parking and reconfigured park lots. Staff will present to the Buckroe Civic Association and a business meeting next Thursday and expects public hearings in March before a planning commission recommendation and council consideration.
