Council approves Nyrop zone change to R-4 for 5.88-acre parcel

The Harrison City Council on Aug. 12 approved the Nyrop Zone Change application, moving the property from Agricultural zoning to Medium Low Density Residential (R-4). The change applies to approximately 5.88 acres and was recommended for approval by the Planning & Zoning Commission at a July 16 public hearing.
Council member Joe Cornell moved to approve the application; Will Butler seconded. The council voted to approve the zone change with Council member Charlie Shutt recorded as NAY and the remaining members voting AYE.
During the public comment period prior to council action, Cheryl Grove expressed opposition to the proposed zone change, saying that introducing low-income housing could negatively affect Harrison and could lead to higher crime. The Planning & Zoning recommendation and council approval allow the applicant to pursue modest residential development uses permitted in R-4, subject to any required permits or special-use approvals.
