Library board approves child-safety policy, asks attorney to review final text

Trustees asked whether the library could guarantee two staff members at closing and how to handle situations where a child needs emergency care. Director (Speaker 1) said the policy recognizes exigent circumstances and that staff have coordinated with the fire department about disclosure of patron information when safety requires it. "There is a clause called exigent circumstances where we can break the privacy of, that in for the greater good or health or, you know, whatever," the Director said.
The board amended motions to submit the draft for legal review and to clarify language about when staff may notify guardians or emergency responders. The motion to approve the child-safety policy — contingent on attorney review of specific language — passed with no recorded opposition. Trustees asked the governance committee to prepare any additional clarifying language on notifications and to return with counsel suggestions ahead of implementation.
