Burlington International Airport seeks 7,200-square-yard cargo-apron expansion; DRB closes hearing for deliberation

Representatives for Burlington International Airport presented a site-plan amendment (SP 2616) to expand and reconfigure the cargo apron and relocate a vehicle service area inside the airport security fence at 1200 Airport Drive. Madison Reagan, speaking for the airport, described the project as an extension of the existing cargo apron to create a common-use apron allowing multiple cargo operators to use the facility.

"This project would extend and provide an expansion of the existing cargo apron of approximately 7,200 square yards," Madison Reagan said. Board members and staff questioned whether the work falls under the airport master plan and whether the airport's PUD designation or a PUD amendment would be needed for major changes. Staff referenced stormwater comments (including modeling of glycol discharge and 25-year flood events) and recommended that, if conditions remain unresolved, the board could either amend the draft decision or require compliance with outstanding conditions prior to issuance of a zoning permit. A staff member told the board, "With this additional information, you could either amend what was written or just kind of hold it and let them demonstrate compliance... prior to issuance of a zoning permit." After questions and no public comments, a motion was made to close the hearing and the board voted to close and move into deliberative session.
