"And then with the summer food program initiative, we've had 6 more children added since I wrote this, so we have 45 currently," said Lydia Perry, the school librarian and interventionist, who provided enrollment updates.
Staff described logistics and funding mechanics: the district expects reimbursement through federal funds administered by the state and plans to source food in bulk from vendors such as US Foods and Sysco. Staff said the program will initially be run by school kitchen staff, with a likely weekly pickup window (tentatively 4–7 p.m.), and that the district hopes about 60 participants will make the program break even. "This is strictly a summer food program for all kids 0 to 18," a staff member said, noting there is no needs‑based application and that increased participation improves reimbursements.
Board members asked about staffing and outreach; staff said production records and sign‑in will be required and that the district will recruit volunteers after the first year if needed. Flyers, social media and community sites such as the post office and market will be used for outreach. The program is scheduled to start in the weeks before summer and staff will monitor enrollment and costs to determine sustainability.
