Commission asks where new driveways and housing are appearing relative to flood zones

CVRPC asked the commission to help map the location of recent driveway permits and development (past 10 years) so the town can check whether growth is occurring in mapped flood-risk areas; commissioners said most recent projects are above mapped flood zones.
At the May 13 meeting Sam Lash asked the commission to identify where development and driveway permits have been recorded over the last decade to determine whether new construction is clustering in mapped flood hazard areas. "Where has your development gone for instance in the last 10 years?" Lash asked, offering to produce trend maps to inform Town Plan language.
Commissioners listed areas with recent activity—off Chelsea Road, Snow Bridge Road, Flint Road and Falls Bridge Road—and said those locations are generally above flood zones. Susan Lyons described small residential projects proposed by a local developer, noting "Larry has plans for six – 2 bedroom units" and two additional two-bedroom units on Route 14. Sam Lash recommended matching driveway permit records with hazard maps to evaluate how well existing plan language is limiting development in risky locations.
