Town Manager Ryan told the Selectboard he discovered an error in previously submitted FEMA financial reports that caused the State to place Williamstown on a delinquency list and halted the town’s ability to obtain State grant awards. He hired CPA Bonnie Batchelder to review and correct the paperwork and reported that she concluded a 2025 single audit was not required because the funds had been accounted for in 2024.
Ryan said the CPA resubmitted corrected reports to the Department of Public Safety and that the Town is awaiting the State’s response. He warned that if an additional single audit were required the cost could be about $10,000, which could strain the town’s finances. Ryan also noted the town had received substantial FEMA funds for flooding in 2023 and 2024 and the audits are meant to verify use of those funds.
