Board member questions equity of single con-applicant for bond committee

One board member voiced concern that the con committee had only one applicant and that that applicant's relative youth might leave the con side underrepresented. The member said he worried the composition might be "heavily weighted on the pro committee" and asked whether the board should delay to attract more con-applicants.
Julianne Repman said the district could keep the application open until the county deadline of Aug. 4 but that doing so would require scheduling another board meeting and a very tight turnaround to collect signatures and file the statements with the county. Repman emphasized the district had confirmed each applicant lives within district boundaries and followed the application process.
The board did not delay; members voted to adopt the appointments as presented and directed staff to collect signatures and submit the required statements to Snohomish County.
