Planning commission reviews hazard-mitigation survey, plans 2026 status update

The Williamstown Planning Commission on June 10 reviewed survey results for the town’s Local Hazard Mitigation Plan and outlined next steps to produce a 2026 status update. Rich Turner, chair, said the survey results as of May 27 showed nine responses and highlighted a cluster of comments expressing concern about wind, rain and tree-related power outages. "The survey result as of 5/27/26 along with some good comments received from the nine (9) responses," Turner said during the discussion.
Commissioners debated raising the hazard rating for wind and agreed to seek more public input by reposting the survey on Front Porch Forum. Turner said he would coordinate a follow-up meeting with Town Manager Ryan to update the 2020 mitigation-actions table and incorporate completed items into the new plan. The commission also discussed convening a separate working session to finalize 2026-status entries before the plan is folded into the town’s planning documents.
