Council hears wastewater facility update; foam incident contained and revenue partnerships explored

Council member Rodney Mund reported the wastewater treatment facility is performing well and should remain within budget despite a recent event. Council member Rex Christensen provided more detail, saying the facility is exploring partnerships with disposal companies to generate revenue from wastewater byproducts and that a foam buildup event occurred that they believe was caused by a surfactant binding to organic material; the event was contained to one area and staff cleaned it successfully.
Christensen said staff are considering adding cameras because the SCADA monitoring system occasionally gives false alerts, and the facility recently received a no-cost communications repeater installation by Kaleb Kunzler to aid CERT coordination between Perry and Willard. Christensen also praised the new manager Ruben Van Tassell and his two employees for their work.
No budget amendment was requested at the meeting; council members noted creative revenue options are being pursued and staff will continue monitoring operational issues and report back if further action is required.
