AWS says Calverton site could create operations jobs and construction work, with workforce training plans

Becky Ford said workforce development is a core part of AWS's local investment plan and pointed to partnerships with Southern College of Southern Maryland, high schools and community colleges to prepare residents for data-center construction and operations roles.
"This project in particular, based on the site plan that we looked at earlier, is likely to create at least 2 50 new jobs," Ford said, noting that the figure does not include the large number of construction workers expected during build-out. She added that operations employees typically fall in the $80,000–$100,000 pay range and that training would include fiber-optic and data-center operations skills.
Ford said AWS would offer programming for local workforce upskilling and that the company will consider community priorities such as open space and environmental stewardship as it develops outreach and training plans.
