Commission finds Dunkirk Town Center chapters consistent and urges MTA routing review, 6–1 vote

The Calvert County Planning Commission voted on March 18, 2026 to close the record and recommend the Board of County Commissioners adopt Chapters 1 and 3 of the Dunkirk Town Center Master Plan. Staff described prior reviews and explained commission requests for additional information about the Dunkirk park‑and‑ride and potential transit routing.
Long‑range planner Tay Harris told commissioners the county had requested staff verify park‑and‑ride capacity and ownership. Harris said, "So the MTA park and ride is built out to capacity. It is state owned and county maintained." Harris added that the county is encouraging the Maryland Transit Administration to establish routes (for which MTA has not committed) to Annapolis, Greenbelt, New Carlton and College Park. No members of the public signed up to comment on this item, and the commission voted to recommend adoption by a 6–1 margin.
Commissioners also directed staff to confirm ownership and build‑out status in writing and to describe the county review process for proposed renovations, including applicable state and county design and construction requirements. The vote will send the commission’s recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners for formal consideration.
