Seaside Park officials outline lawsuits seeking Berkeley Township tax revenue

Mayor Dennis Douglas provided a detailed legal update on Seaside Park’s efforts to recover tax revenue from Berkeley Township for parcels that had been part of South Seaside Park. The borough filed two lawsuits and "filed deliberately what's called an order to show cause asking the court for emergent action," he said, requesting that Berkeley be directed to redirect municipal and local-school tax revenue to Seaside Park retroactive to April 6.
Douglas told the council a pretrial conference occurred the week of the meeting and that a follow-up hearing is set for Aug. 28. "There is no decision that has been made," he said, and council members said they shared concern about residents who have not yet received tax bills. The mayor said the suits are intended to secure revenue for services Seaside Park has provided since the change in municipal alignment.
