Library trustees and foundation urge commissioners to fund four staff positions

Representatives of the Board of Library Trustees and the Calvert Library Foundation urged the commissioners to increase library staffing and to include baseline manpower needs in the county's six-year plan. Jeffrey Lewis, speaking for the Board of Library Trustees, said existing staff have absorbed additional duties and warned that without added administrative capacity service quality and staff safety could suffer.
"We are one of only three systems in the state without an assistant director to support library operations," Lewis said, requesting that the library staffing request be fully funded for FY27 and estimating the cost at just under $300,000. Scott Deacon, president of the Calvert Library Foundation, said the foundation supports expanded manpower and capital planning as library use grows, citing large increases in visitor numbers for library events and a likely need for future facilities and technology investments.
