EMS and sheriff reports: Medicaid supplemental, new ambulance VIN, staff sick-call pressure

Rob (EMS) updated the committee on several operational matters. He said the county’s desk review on a Medicaid supplemental program lowered the county’s award to about $82,000 and that after completing requested revisions the county expects the payment in September or October.
Rob also reported the department has a new ambulance on order and "just got a VIN number for it last week, with an anticipated delivery date of September 30," and that the unit would go to Belco for lights, sirens and radios after delivery. He told the committee the department has experienced an unusual number of recent sick leaves—"13 24 hour sick calls in the last 30 days," which Rob said amounted to 312 hours of coverage and has driven overtime pressure but has not forced ambulances out of service.
Separately, Sheriff Joe briefed on corrections staffing (new correction officer hires scheduled) and noted an inmate hospital stay increased health-care costs for June. Committee members asked staff to consider personnel-cost breakdowns in grant or budget analyses.
